This vintage pottery vessel was traditionally used in southern French country homes to keep the water cool during hot summers. The beautiful soft yellow glaze contrasts with the raw terracotta, but is also functional as the unglazed terracotta lets some water evaporate, keeping it cool.
The name "GARGOULETTE" comes from "garguelotte", an old french word for gullet or throat.
